FunTeam Alberta promotes family oriented, low cost, and less competitive sport to be enjoyed by participants of all skill levels. We are an inclusive organization that encourage any activity to be FUN for the participants, parents, coaches, volunteers and the rest of the community!
Ponoka Rec Hockey has an emphasis on skills development, team play, and fun, and is about our youth being able to enjoy a healthy activity in a safe environment regardless of skill and ability. We want players to feel comfortable learning hockey without having to worry about "not being good enough or having pressure to win every game". They have an opportunity to grow and improve at a rate comfortable to them and in a positive environment. They learn respect, sportsmanship, and citizenship. The entire program is run by volunteers and made affordable to families. The time commitment for families is 1 practice a week and 2 – 3 games per month from October to March. This allows families to do other activities whether they are family, church, school, or community based, thus not having to give up or sacrifice these things because they are committed to one sport or activity, which in turn encourages our youth to become well rounded individuals.

What to Bring
- CSA approved hockey helmet with full face shield
- Mouth guard (this is optional, but recommended)
- Neck guard
- Shoulder pads
- Elbow pads
- Hockey gloves
- Hockey stick
- Hockey pants
- Athletic cup OR Jock shorts with built-in cup
- Shin pads
- Hockey skates
- Hockey tape (both stick tape AND clear sock tape)
- Hockey bag
- Hockey socks
- Hockey jersey (Practice)
- PRHA will provide game jerseys, a jersey deposit is not required for the 2020/2021 Season.
Fees
Important: $10 of the listed registration fee covers your FunTeam membership which is required to join a FunTeam group. Please submit all of your fees to your Group Manager in a timely fashion as it is required to complete the registration process.

Our age groups are used as guidelines, and are as follows: 5-7 year olds (Team 1 - Saturdays 2:45pm, Team 2 Saturdays 4:15) 8-10 year olds (Team 1 - Monday 4:00, Team 2 - Monday 6:45pm, Team 3 - Friday 4:00pm) 11-14 year olds (Team 1 - Tuesday 4:00, Team 2 - Thursday 4:00pm, Team 3 - Friday 3:45pm) 15-17 year olds (Team 1 - Tuesdays 7:45) Please note that these age groups are guidelines only, and children may be placed differently to allow for maximum enjoyment, safety and skill development. Even children who have never skated before can have success in this program.
REGISTRATION FEES: 5-7 yr olds - $185.00 per player - One ice time per week on Saturday afternoons and includes pair of hockey socks to match our jerseys. 8-17 yr olds - $215.00 per player - One weekday practice and approximately 3 games per month on the weekends. Also includes pair of hockey socks to match our jerseys.
PAYMENT METHODS "Pay Now" Option - Is a Credit Card transaction - Note 3.3% processing fee will be also charged to your credit card.
"Pay Later" Option - For PRHA this must be an E-TRANSFER payment, Please do not wait till the first practice to bring cash or cheque. Your spot is not secured until payment is received and many teams will fill up. Send E-Transfer payments to PRHA EMAIL: ponokarechockey@gmail.com If asked to make security question make your security answer ponokarechockey (all small caps). In your payment notes please indicate the kids first and last name along with the Team they were registered to.
REGISTERING PROCESS When registering for a team please register by age group and preferred ice time. If you have friends you wish to play with please make sure they are registering for the same preferred ice time. We will attempt to accommodate your preferred ice time but does not guarantee it will be your ice time. If your preferred ice time is full, please register for an alternate time slot and then email Ponoka Rec Hockey with your kids name and indicate what your preferred choice was and reason for that choice. |

Volunteering
FunTeam volunteers are our most valuable resource. We can’t thank you enough for your commitment to our programming and bringing our model of sport to your community.
A successful season relies on many volunteers to assist throughout the year. Please be generous with your assistance when possible. We love having three coaches on the ice for practices and 3 on the bench for games when ever possible. We have many experienced coaches within PRHA, so even if your experience is limited, your help will be much appreciated. Coaches also love having a parent captain that can handle team communications for the Coaches. If you are able to help in one of these capacities, please make sure you register as a parent volunteer.
Ponoka Rec Hockey also likes to put on 3 events a year. A PRHA Day in December, a tournament in January and a year end wind up in March. These are only possible with parent participation, so please assist where ever possible.
