FunTeam volunteers are our most valuable resource. We can’t thank you enough for your commitment to our programming and bringing our model of sport to your community.

Volunteering

As many of you are aware, every season we have volunteer and fundraising commitments that are very clearly laid out during registration,that are highlighted during the parent meeting at the beginning of the season, and that are also reiterated several times throughout the season.

Despite this, every season we still face volunteer and fundraising commitments that remain unfulfilled. This puts extra demand on the families who readily step up to help when needed, and this should never happen in a volunteer-run organization such as ours. Below is a list of volunteer roles that parents must fulfil during the season. We recognize that some of these roles may require a higher level of commitment than others, but collectively they provide a top-tier fun hockey experience for your child.

VOLUNTEER ROLES:

1. Team Managers:  responsible to ensure the team is able to attend, confirm which players will attend, which jerseys are required, book referees for home games, and provide the game location for their team. They are responsible to reschedule or cancel any games based on weather conditions and/or illnesses. Each team requires a Team Manager for a successful season. Lists of available Refs will be provided.

2. Jersey Managers:  ensure that game jerseys are distributed to each player for games and collected at the end of each game. They will wash them according to the instructions given and return ALL  jerseys to RVHC  at the end of the season. Jerseys that are not returned at the end of the year will have the replacement cost billed to the parent of the player who was assigned that jersey.

3. Head Coach: 1 per team

4. Assistant Coaches: Minimum 2 assistant coaches for each team. 

5. Scorekeeper: During Vikings home games, 1 scorekeeper is required to run the time clock.

6. Home Game DJ: During Vikings home games, 1 volunteer is required to play music during warmup and between whistles. This person works in tandem with the scorekeeper to keep the arena rockin’.

7. Tournament Volunteer: Each Vikings team hosts 1 tournament per season and to make these a success parents are required to work short shifts to assist with raffle tables, concession, and scorekeeping/music during all of the games. 

Please consider how you can assist to make this a successful season for our children. All of the above volunteer positions are required to be filled for the season to run and if you are nervous about volunteering, we will make every effort to set you up for success in whichever role you chose to help with. These volunteer commitments will be discussed at the mandatory parent meeting on September 28 @7pm. All coaches and parent volunteers that are on the ice and / or in the dressing rooms are required to provide a vulnerable sector check to the club. THESE MUST BE SUBMITTED BEFORE YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO PROCEED WITH YOUR VOLUNTEER POSITION. Please ask for a request letter that you then take to your RCMP detachment - these will also be available at the parent meeting.
